This chapter was revealed in Mecca and consists of 40 verses The chapter revolves around the greater resurrection (al-qiyāmat al-kubrá). It begins by affirming the occurrence of the resurrection. Then it proceeds to depict some of its signs, and a brief account of what humans will experience at that point. It identifies the occasion of one’s death as a gateway that leads to the hereafter. Finally, the chapter closes with an argument for God’s power over restoration of life by reference to His power of origination. The theme of the verses testify that the chapter was revealed in Mecca.
