Al-Mizan Vol. 37

This volume features Allamah Tabatabai’s exegesis on six mid-sized chapters of the Qurʾan. Of these chapters, Surah al-Rahman (55) is a deeply evocative and poetic chapter, which derives its name from one of the most beautiful names of God, ‘the All-beneficent.’ The chapter extols the countless bounties and blessings that God has bestowed upon His creation, urging the audience of humans and jinn (signified by the copious use of the dual form) to reflect on the mercy and compassion that underpin the very fabric of existence. The repeated refrain, “So which of your Lord’s bounties will you both deny?” serves as a powerful rhetorical device, compelling the reader to acknowledge the innumerable signs of divine grace that permeate the cosmos.
