About Us
Welcome to Tawheed Institute Australia Ltd.
Founded in 2013 in Sydney, Australia, Tawheed Institute was established with a mission: to continue the monumental task of translating the remaining volumes of Tafsir al-Mizan (English Volumes 14-40) by the esteemed ‘Allamah Tabataba’i. Tafsir al-Mizan holds a distinguished place in Islamic scholarship, bridging profound insights across religion, science, and philosophy. Our goal is to make this treasure more accessible, sharing the depth and elegance of Allamah Tabataba’i’s work with the English-speaking world.
In 2016, Tawheed Institute hosted its inaugural QConference at the University of Technology, Sydney, marking a milestone for Qur’anic studies in Australia. Featuring renowned speakers from across the globe, the conference emphasized the importance of Qur’anic exegesis, with a special focus on Tafsir al-Mizan.
Our current project: Tafsir al-Tasnim
With all forty English volumes of Tafsir al-Mizan now published, the Institute has turned to Tafsir al-Tasnim, the comprehensive commentary on the Qur’an by Āyatullāh ʿAbdullāh Jawādī Āmulī. Born in Āmul, Iran, in 1933, Āyatullāh Jawādī Āmulī studied in Qum under ʿAllāmah Ṭabāṭabāʾī, among others, and continues to teach at the seminary (ḥawzah) of Qum. Of his more than one hundred works, his sixty-two-volume Tasnīm is among the most notable.
We are translating selected parts of Tasnīm into English: its Introduction, the commentary on Sūrah al-Ḥamd, and its accounts of the prophets in the Qur’an. Each part appears first online at altasnim.org and then in print. Introduction to Tafsir al-Tasnim, Sūrah al-Ḥamd and The Story of Adam, Part 1 are already published; the stories of Adam (Part 2), Ibrāhīm, ʿĪsā and Maryam, and Mūsā and Khiḍr are on the way (see Coming Soon), and the story of Dhū al-Qarnayn is in preparation.
